|  Frequently Asked Questions  |

DO I HAVE TO BUY GEAR?

KCFS provides all gear on loan to participants with the understanding that it will be returned in good condition at the end of the season. (Game socks and mouth guards are yours to keep.) The only thing that you need to purchase is a pair of cleats. If you can not afford to purchase cleats, please let us know as we often have used pairs donated.

MY SON/DAUGHTER WOULD LIKE TO PLAY BUT DOESN'T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE

That's what we are here for! Our coaches would love to introduce your child to this game and help them develop a love for the sport. There is a place for everyone on the field and every game truly is a team effort.

MY CHILD WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PLAY BUT I CAN’T AFFORD THE FEES

Just send us a message and we will help you with Kidsport, Jumpstart or other arrangements. If your child wants to be on the field, we want to have them out there.

IS YOUTH FOOTBALL DANGEROUS?

No more so than playing in the arena, on a soccer pitch, or on a playground! Our coaches work hard to teach safe contact. If you would like to talk to our President or one of our coaches about how we work to keep our players safe, we welcome you to stop by the field or send us a message.

WHEN IS THE FOOTBALL SEASON?

Regular season practices start in mid July, with games beginning in September. Our regular season runs until the end of October. Playoffs are in November with the Provincial Championships being held in late November.
We practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Games are on Sundays.

HOW FAR DO WE HAVE TO TRAVEL FOR GAMES?

The Southern Interior Football Conference generally includes teams in West Kelowna, Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm. Carpooling among football families is common.

WHAT ABOUT FUNDRAISING?

KCFS is a non-profit society that relies on fundraising to help provide players with safe equipment, quality coaching, and overall the best sporting experience possible. Parents/caregivers are vital to ensuring the continued success of community football. KCFS organizes several fundraisers throughout the year and all parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate. If parents/caregivers choose not to participate they are required to pay their fundraising bond in order to opt out of fundraising.

Fundraising ideas are always welcome as are new sponsorship opportunities. Please forward your ideas and suggestions to the KCFS Fundraising Coordinator (fundraising@kcfs.ca) for discussion.

WHAT ABOUT VOLUNTEERING?

We are all volunteers working for KCFS and we cannot do it without the help of parents/caregivers. Each team requires a manager and a trainer in addition to multiple coaches. We appreciate having volunteers film each game for the coaches/athletes review. In addition, volunteers are required for multiple positions at each home game. For these reasons, volunteering is considered mandatory. Parents/caregivers are welcome to volunteer for specific duties. If not, duties will be assigned by the team manager.

Kamloops is host to this year’s provincial championships and KCFS is required to provide volunteers for this event, held in late November. We are thankful for each and every community member that steps up to volunteer. Please let your team manager or any board member know of your willingness to help.
